Aging gracefully isn’t about trying to look like a 20-something, it’s about living your best life and having the physical and mental health to enjoy it. Getting older doesn’t mean decline or despair. It’s a reason for celebration! There are plenty of ways we can age with grace, beauty and joy. We can experience more happiness, more success and get even better with age and experience. Aging gracefully is more about being healthy and happy than keeping wrinkles at bay.
So, what are the secrets to aging gracefully? How can you ensure your best is yet to come?
Among many tips exercise is that one tip that help you age gracefully from the inside out. Regular exercise significantly lowers your risk of diseases, such as heart disease and cancer, and helps you retain your mobility longer. Exercise also lowers stress and improves sleep, skin and bone health, and mood.
The Department of Health & Human Services recommends that adults do:
• 2.5 to 5 hours per week of moderate-intensity exercise, 1.25 to 2.5 hours per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercise, or a combination of the two.
• Muscle strengthening activities of moderate intensity or greater, that involve all major muscle groups, two or more days per week.
Some instances of aerobic exercises include walking, swimming and cycling.
Muscle and bone strengthening exercises can be performed using weights or resistance bands. Older adults should also focus on activities that include balance training in addition to aerobic and muscle strengthening exercises. You ought to stay physically active.
Apart from staying physically active you also should mind you diet. Healthy foods are the way to go when it comes to aging gracefully. Fitness trainer’s at TR Fitness recommend that you eat:
• Fruits and vegetables.
• Lean protein,
• And food which you have been eating since childhood as the body has been on a track for so many years.
Remember the portion size does make a lot of difference.
With this said, we even believe that mental health matters. Being happy and keeping your stress down goes a long way in helping you live and age well. Keep your mood elevated . . . Spend quality time with your friends and loved ones, mostly importantly do things you enjoy.
